Dario Buccino

Dario Buccino (Rome, 1968) is a composer, guitarist, performer, theorist, designer of musical instruments.

His training includes composition studies at the Milan Conservatory with Irlando Danieli and Adriano Guarnieri, musical analysis with Gianmario Borio and electronic music with Alvise Vidolin at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan, advanced courses in Europe, studies in the field of theatre and performing arts.

In the early 1990s he created the HN System®, a system of composition, notation, performance and improvisation techniques, based on the parameterisation of bodily, mental, and emotional performative processes.
In 1994 he was a lecturer at the Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik in Darmstadt, where he presented the HN System, defined by Heinz-Klaus Metzger as «the most surprising artistic invention of the last 15 years».  

His works combine composition, performance art, and sound sculpture.
They have been commissioned by Marco Rogliano, Renato Gatto, Marco Crescimanno, Ars Ludi, Oscar Pizzo, Mirko Jevtovic, Dejana Sekulic, Duccio Beverini, Fulvia Ricevuto, Manuel Zurria, Fabio Bagnoli, Andrea Cusumano, and presented in international festivals and institutions such as Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Milano Musica festival, Impuls Festival in Graz, JazzMI festival in Milan, 1000 Beats festival in Palermo, Hessisches Landesmuseum in Darmstadt, Curva Minore in Palermo, Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, Teatro Manzoni in Milan, Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, Fabbrica Europa festival in Florence, Transart festival in Bolzano, Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Stoccarda, Beijing Comedy Theatre, Oriental Arts Center in Shanghai, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Unerhörte Musik in Berlin, Fondazione Piero Manzoni.

He has held seminars and workshops on the HN System at the Milan Conservatory, the Palermo Conservatory, the Trapani Conservatory, the Roma Tre University, the University of Palermo, the Milan Polytechnic, the IULM University of Milan, the SUPSI Professional University of Lugano. 

He founded and conducts the HN Ensemble, specialised in the performance of works composed with the HN System. 

He created the HN Percussion®, a family of musical instruments that involve the performer's entire body in sound creation, which have attracted the interest of percussionists such as Guido Facchin, Evelyn Glennie, Christian Hamouy (Les Percussions de Strasbourg).

He also composes for the cinema, theatre, dance. He has worked as a composer and performer in Shakespearean productions for the Teatro Stabile of Turin, and with artists such as Ale and Franz, Chiara Andrich, Giovanni Maderna, Leo Muscato.
He has collaborated with jazz, rock, pop musicians such as Vinicio Capossela, Stefano Edda Rampoldi, Enrico Gabrielli, Marco Parente, Roberta Carrieri, L'Aura Abela, Anatrofobia.
As a singer-songwriter, he won the first prize of Indaco Cantautori attributed to him by Luis Bacalov, Giorgio Calabrese, Gianfranco Reverberi and his album «La costrizione della nudità» was selected as Best First Work at the Tenco Prize.
He is a busker and is president of ASM Confesercenti Artisti di Strada a Milano.

His work is the subject of musicological publications, graduation theses and documentary films.
